About Us - Feek Racing
David and Coral started their own training venture in early 2015. During their first year, they were able to notch up a Country Cup win and their first Metropolitan victory.
Before joining forces with Coral, David spent four years in a very successful partnership with David Brideoake. Their 2013/14 season included 30 winners from 130 runners, with a strike rate of 23%. Notable city performers were Warm Love, Dance With Her (Country Horse of the Year 2012), Self Sense, I'm Jake and Group winner Griante. David has also prided himself on achieving results with horses of lesser ability by placing them well.
Prior to that, David was a Foreman for Lee Freedman at Markdel after being Assistant Trainer to Ed Dunlop in Newmarket, UK. Ed is best known in Australia as trainer of three time Melbourne Cup runner up Red Cadeaux but David was also associated with Group one performers Snow Fairy, Court Masterpiece, Fraulein, Lailani and Night Style. David’s role saw him representing the stable all over England, Europe and Dubai. He and Coral also spent three successful years training a small string of horses with Coral’s father, Gardie Grissell, in UK before moving to Australia.
David first developed an enthusiasm for racing at the age of fourteen. His parents thought that sending him to work for Champion UK trainer Richard Hannon in his school holidays would put him off the idea of pursuing a career with racehorses, but instead it had the opposite effect! He went on to gain a sound grounding with Hall of Fame US trainer Jonathan Sheppard where he ran the stable satellite yard at the Saratoga meeting. He then worked as assistant to Brian Meehan in England’s second training centre, Lambourn, where he learnt a great deal about training two year olds. This was followed by a taste of Australia with the late Peter Hayes at Lindsay Park and then John Hawkes at Warwick Farm, working under Peter Snowden’s guidance.
Coral Feek was raised in a horseracing family, both her parents being well respected jump trainers in England. She inherited the passion for horses at an early age and has gone on to carve a career of her own in racing. She spent a several years as an Amateur jockey, the highlight of which was competing in the Aintree Foxhunters Chase over the famous Grand National course. Like David, she has been able to gain a solid education with some of the World’s leading trainers including UK trainers Ed Dunlop, Nicky Henderson, Brian Meehan and Toby Balding, in Australia with John Hawkes and Peter Hayes, and Johnathan Pease (Chantilly, France). Always with a thirst for more knowledge, she has supplemented her practical education with a number of formal qualifications.
Since moving to Australia, she has been able to add to her skills further and develop her understanding of Australian racing and training methods with David Brideoake, Jason Warren and Fran Houlahan/Brian Johnson. This has included riding track work, schooling, barrier trials and all aspects of stable management.
Feek Racing is very much a family affair with David and Coral's children Tammy, 15, and Heather, 13, keen to get a slice of the action!
