Tough staying mare ZOFFANY ROSE notched up her third career win on Saturday, coming from well back on the turn to score in emphatic style in the 0-58 over the 2400m, for regular rider Jessica Eaton.
After being well backed late the 4yo daughter of Zoffany jumped a firming second favourite for the race and from the wide draw Jess opted to sit quietly early as the leaders ran along at a genuine tempo in front. As the race went on 800m from home Jess clicked up Zoffany Rose and she travelled in to it strongly as they swung in to the home straight. After being given a few strides to balance up shortly after straightening, the mare really knuckled down and powered to the line over the final 300m to overhaul the leaders and win comfortably with over a length to spare - with a beautifully judged ride by Jess.
'We had no luck last time out with the saddle shifting mid-race and we went home disappointed as we were confident she'd be hard to beat on her home track'. Said a delighted David Feek from Bendigo after the win.
'Today's field looked a similar quality however we were nervous from the gate and really didn't know what to expect. It was a wonderful ride from Jess'.
'She is an improving mare who likes to stay. I think she'd be well suited in town over a trip and outside of carnival time'.
Zoffany Rose has now had 17 starts for 3 wins, 4 minor placings (and a handful of luckless runs) and almost $50,000 in prize money.
Team Feek will give the mare and easy week at their Mornington base to come through the barnstorming win and will assess the options going forward for Zoffany Rose.
